Sunday at General Conference

Sunday at General Conference was just like the other days.   Legislative Committees pressed to finish going through petitions.   The people in the pew can rest assured that every petition gets several touches in the process, and each one is considered appropriately.
I’ve picked up on a couple things to bring back to the District:   SBC21 a [...]

Day 3: Legislation!

Today began with worship with African Bishop Machado preaching.   His translater was Don Reasoner, son-in-law of Jay and Marj House.  Bishop Machado asked, “What happened that the church stopped running hard.  The church stopped doing good.  The church stopped loving God.”   He lifted up the 3 Wesleyan rules as the missing pieces.  We need to do  [...]

This afternoon was spent in a special orientation session for women delegates.   It was a primer on what to expect on the floor of the Conference.   For the first of many times today, I learned that this is a POLITICAL event!
Other salient points of the day:
Delegates can be divided into two camps:   those who see [...]

April 22: Travel Day/Earth Day

I’m happy to report that travel to General Conference proceeded without a hitch.
Catching up on Earth Day news during the flight, I wondered about the ginormous carbon footprint to be created by this event! It is imponderable and includes miles flown, shuttles taken, rooms air conditioned, workers showing up, food grown, transported, prepared, and consumed.
This is the 38th [...]

All Roads Lead to…

Journey to General Conference 2008, Ft. Worth, Texas
Tuesday, April 22, is Travel Day.  That, in itself is an optimistic beginning the way air travel has been lately.  May it be so that all Travel be accomplished on this, its day!
My mom was surprised that there are only 1000 delegates to General Conference.  It is, indeed, [...]
