Journey to General Conference 2008, Ft. Worth, Texas
Tuesday, April 22, is Travel Day. That, in itself is an optimistic beginning the way air travel has been lately. May it be so that all Travel be accomplished on this, its day!
My mom was surprised that there are only 1000 delegates to General Conference. It is, indeed, smaller than our Annual Conference gathering yet represents an increasingly global communion of United Methodists.
Everyone says, somewhat awkwardly, “Enjoy General Conference!” Those who have seen the advance reading of a couple thousand pages skip the pleasantries and offer promises of prayers for endurance. I expect that it will at least be an education. Indeed the preparation itself has been so.
Bishop Middleton reminded me last week that “it will not be legislation that saves the church.”
